Capacitance Measurement for Material Thickness (Accumeasure)

Watch MTI’s Digital Accumeasure D400 Thickness Measurement Video to learn how to use this capacitance-based non-contact measurement system to make precise thickness measurements.

Video Summary

The Digital Accumeasure D400 Thickness Measurement Video shows how to measure thickness with two capacitance probes. The video begins by explaining how to calibrate the D400 with a known object’s thickness using Accumeasure Measurement software. The video then shows the measurement of an object with a different thickness.

In this MTI video, the fixture that is used is grounded to the back of the Accumeasure and holds a top probe and a bottom probe. Calibration blocks are used to calibrate the system so that highly accurate measurements can be made. The Digital Accumeasure D400 uses a high-precision capacitance measurement sensor offering nanometer accuracy and stability.

This video from MTI Instruments also shows to how to start the Accumeasure Measurement software by choosing the desktop icon that is created during the software installation process. After scanning for units and clicking connect, the user selects thickness measurements. In the device settings for hardware setup, the settings are changed to 4x range.

The Digital Accumeasure D400 Thickness Measurement Video also shows how the user calibrates the machine using a block of known thickness, on the measurement tab, enters the known thickness. After the calibration block is placed between the two capacitance probes, the Calibrate button is selected.
